The Uncapacitated Single Allocation p-Hub Median Problem with Stepwise Cost Function

چکیده
In this paper, we address a new version of the Uncapacitated Single Allocation p-Hub Median Problem (USApHMP) in which transportation costs on each edge are given by piecewise constant cost functions. In the classical USApHMP, transportation costs are modelled as linear functions of the transport volume, where a fixed discount factor on hubhub connections is introduced to simulate economies of scale. We argue that, in many cases, it is more realistic to replace the discount factor by decision variables representing the number of vehicles required on the given edge. Introducing integral variables for vehicle numbers makes the resulting optimization problem significantly harder, especially for the existing state-of-the-art MILP solvers. We propose an exact branch-and-bound algorithm where lower bounds are computed by considering a Lagrangian relaxation procedure. The Lagrangian relaxation exploits the problem structure and decomposes the problem into a set of smaller subproblems that can be solved efficiently. In particular, some of the latter can be reduced to continuous knapsack problems that can be solved quickly. We report exact solutions for instances with up to 50 nodes, i.e., significantly larger instances than those solvable by MILP solvers.

Genetic Algorithm-Based Optimization Approach for an Uncapacitated Single Allocation P-hub Center Problem with more realistic cost structure
A p-hub center network design problem is definition of some nodes as hubs and allocation of non-hub nodes to them wherein the maximum travel times between any pair of nodes is minimized. The distinctive feature of this study is proposing a new mathematical formulation for modeling costs in a p-hub center problem. Here, instead of considering costs as a linear function of distance, for the first...
متن کاملA Congested Double Path Approach for a Hub Location-allocation Problem with Service Level at Hubs
In this paper an uncapacitated multiple allocation p-hub median problem is discussed. The model minimizes the transportation cost based on inventory service level at hubs through double paths between hubs. Inventory service level is defined as the percent of inventory shortage of vehicles at hubs according to passengers demand and replenishment time of vehicles. A real data from 25 nodes of mun...

The hub location–allocation problem under uncertainty is a real-world task arising in the areas such as public and freight transportation and telecommunication systems. In many applications, the demand is considered as inexact because of the forecasting inaccuracies or human’s unpredictability. This study addresses the robust uncapacitated multiple allocation hub location problem with a set of ...

Hubs are facilities to collect arrange and distribute commodities in telecommunication networks, cargo delivery systems, etc. In this paper, an uncapacitated phub center problem in case of single allocation and also multiple allocation will be introduced in which travel times or transportation costs are considered as fuzzy parameters. Then, by proposing new methods, the presented problem is con...
متن کاملUncapacitated single and multiple allocation p-hub center problems
The hub median problem is to locate hub facilities in a network and to allocate non-hub nodes to hub nodes such that the total transportation cost is minimized. In the hub center problem, the main objective is one of minimizing the maximum distance/cost between origin destination pairs. In this paper, we study uncapacitated hub center problems with either single or multiple allocation. Both pro...
